Whilst Lib Dems opt for inflation busting parking charge increases, Conservative run West Sussex County Council freezes parking charges for on-street parking.
Cheryl has called on the Lib Dem controlled district council to scrap their inflation busting 300% increase in Sunday parking charges following outrage from town traders and shop workers.
Cheryl said: “Independent traders are the lifeblood of our town. The Lib Dem’s astronomical hike in car parking charges of 300% for Sunday shoppers is a blow to these essential businesses. This is on top of the 60% increase on some parking charges earlier this year. Retailers, shop workers who pay to park for the day to do their jobs and shoppers are all telling me this must not carry on.
The Lib Dem’s local economy policies are harming our town.”
Meanwhile hundreds of traders and shoppers are backing Cheryl’s campaign for the first 30 minutes of parking to be free to help local business.
The Lib Dem’s approach is in stark contrast to Conservative controlled West Sussex County Council which has frozen on-street parking charges from 1 October 2024. This includes all on-street parking permits as well as pay and display on street areas. This will help those who would struggle to meet increased charges.
